After reading The Mortal Instruments I was ecstatic to find out that there was a prequel to TMI. The Infernal Devices is about young girl named Tessa Gray, when her Aunt passed away Tessa made the decision to up and move from New York to London where her older brother was working. As soon as Tessa lands in London everything turns to a downward spiral, she is kidnapped and finds out she has powers, eventually she is saved by Will and Jem, two Shadowhunter Parabatis who were just on a demon hunt. The rest of the series then follows the adventures and relationships between Tessa, Will and Jem as they face The Magister, someone who wants to wipe the world of Shadowhunters!
I love this story as throughout the trilogy Tessa is strong! She deals with everything really well and also you get so engrossed in her love life! Does she choose Jem or Will?!?!?!?! its like a game of ping pong! You also get to see how shadowhunters used to be without all the technology and when the female shadowhunters were not permitted to fight of be on the council. Tessa’s powers from the start are strange and has never happened before so from day one she is an anomaly. Eventually when you find out her history and who she is its such a big relief! I love the fact that Tessa isn’t 100% shadowhunter and that she is original in her own way! It really makes this trilogy different from TMI.
What i don’t like about this series is that its very slow paced in parts. The story line is very dragged out but the rest of the book does make up for this!
